This deep PML oil pan for Dodge RFE transmissions is designed to replace the stock pan on these vehicles:

  • Ram 2500 & 3500, 2WD and 4WD, with 6.7 liter diesel engine with an RFE transmission, 2007½ and newer
  • Ram 1500 with Hemi engine, 2002 - 2005
  • Ram 1500 with 4.7 V8 engine, 2002 to 2011, check clearance on 2012 to 2014
  • 2WD Dakota with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 - 2004
  • 2WD Durango with 4.7 V8 engine, 2000 - 2003
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 V8 engine, 1999 - 2004
  • Jeep Liberty CRD, 2005 and 2006 (check skid plate and see installations below)
  • Jeep Wrangler 2010 and 2011 2.8 Diesel (check skid plate)

Always check your vehicle to verify configuration and clearance!

2013 and newer trucks: Cooling lines (tubes) run close to the stock transmission pan on many models, starting in 2013. This pan has cleared the cooling lines on all trucks so far. See Installations below for notes, video and pictures.

Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 HD Chassis Cab, 2007 to 2012: See the PML Aisin AS68RC transmission pan.

Ram 3500, 4500, 5500 Diesel Trucks, 2013 and newer with the Aisin AS69RC:See the PML Aisin AS69RC transmission pan.

Skid Plates: If you have a skid plate, you may need to move it downwards away from the transmission pan. Please see Installations below for a customer who provided information on his skid plate modifications. Some Jeeps and a few Dodge vehicles have skid plates that limit clearance.

Trucks and SUVs with exhaust or frame members below the stock pan, please see PML RFE pan with step, part number 11078 or PML RFE deep pan with step, part number 11079. 2006 and newer vehicle with the Hemi engine generally need a pan with a step.

For some vehicles that have the exhaust or frame under the stock pan, you may think there is enough clearance between the exhaust and the transmission housing for this PML pan. If you measure, it will seem very close. There is not enough space. It's been tried. After removing fins and part of the PML pan bottom, the pan will go on but the exhaust then sits right on the transmission pan, which is very bad.

This PML transmission pan increases the amount of fluid by 2 1/2 to 3 quarts over stock. It is about 1 inch taller than the stock pan.

Once installed, this pan will not be parallel to the ground. The transmission case gasket surface is also slanted. The drain plug is on the slant closest to the ground so the pan will drain really well. Other PML pans for the Dodge RFE transmission are parallel to the ground once installed.

Comparison of PML RFE Transmission Oil Pans

PML makes four different pans for the Dodge RFE transmission series (45RFE, 5-45RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE, 68RFE). The stock pans and filters are also shown in the image below for reference.

Filter and Gasket Information

See the location of the pick-up on the filters and the corresponding location on the stock pans? For the "2WD" filter, the pick up would hit the bottom of the "4WD" pan.

For PML part numbers 10304 and 11039, you can use either filter.

For PML part numbers 11078 and 11079, you must use the "4WD" filter as the step in the pan will not accommodate a 2WD filter. Thanks to Eric who provided part numbers for 4WD filters that will work:

  • OEM: 5013470AB
  • Fleetguard: TF15072
  • FRAM: FT1223
  • WIX: 58843 (kit)

The filter referred to as the 2WD filtter, has a short inlet pipe toward the rear of the filter. The other filter is called a 4WD filter and the inlet tube is longer and toward the center of the filter. We have been told that around 2007 Dodge began using 4WD filters and pans on 2WD vehicles.

PML pans for Dodge RFE transmissions work with stock filters, easily available from your favorite auto parts store or dealer.

The filter bolts on to the valve body as shown in above images. The filter does not use the pan for support so the pan does not need filter supports in it.

A filter extension or tube is not needed since the fluid will be at the same level with a stock pan as with the PML pan. The filter will pick up from the same place with the stock pan or with a PML pan. PML designs pans and covers to work with stock parts without the need for additional modifications or complications.

For a gasket, PML recommends an inexpensive cork or cork composite type gasket or the silicon gasket maker. Some Dodge vehicles use the Mopar silicon gasket maker, which comes in a tube, with the stock pan. This works fine with a PML pan.

An example of a cork gasket is Transmaxx 72300, shown below.

The pan features internal baffles to direct oil to the filter inlet. The baffles keep the oil near the pickup tube and act as heat sink to help with cooling. Baffles also reduce sloshing.

PML recommends using RTV install this pan.

Optional Machining for Temperature Sending Unit

This pan has a location on the driver's side that can be machined for a temperature sending unit. The location is a circular boss and can accomodate between 1/8 NPT and 1/2 NPT. PML can drill and tap the hole to order for a $45 machining charge.

This PML Dodge transmission pan has been installed on a variety of trucks and SUVs. Our thanks to those who gave us pictures and feedback.

2014 Ram 2500 4x4

CJC Offroad installed this PML transmission pan on theirr 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 6.7 diesel. They were concerned about the transmission fluid cooling lines on the passenger side, but the lines do not contact the PML pan. Watch the video to see the installation:

As shown in the video, pushing the lines 1/8 to 1/4 an inch out makes the installation easier so that RTV did not get all over the flange surfaces. You must be very careful as these tubes are expensive and you do not want to break the seals on either end.

2005 Jeep Liberty CRD With Skid Plates

Installation of this pan on a Jeep Liberty CRD requires removal of the factory skid plate or addition of spacers to move the skid plate downward away from the transmission. Thanks to Stan Wright who purchased part number 10304 for his CRD and then documented his installation. See his write-up at to read about this install.

Dodge Ram 2500 4x4, 2014

Andrew Lowe installed this pan on his 2014 Project Bloodhound Ram 2500 4x4 6.7 Turbo Diesel. He also installed PML rear differential cover, part number 10361 and PML front cover, part number 11136. The truck has limited clearance for a larger transmission pan. To get the PML pan to fit, he slightly bent the cooler lines 1/4 inch.

The images below show the PML pan installed, the transmission pan cooler lines, and the truck. Andrew powder coated the pan and both differential covers a custom red.

Durango AWD, 2004

2000 Dakota with PML transmission pan

The PML pan is installed on a 2004 Dodge Durango Gen. II limited AWD with a 5.7 HEMI and 5-45RFE transmission. The pan clears cross member and fits great. The cross over exhaust pipe does hang down lower than the cross member. The pan was purchased in the natural cast finish and painted by the customer.

Our thanks to Michael for choosing PML pans and covers.
